Non-existent site pages. Details - Blog

“Broken links”

This error occurs when requesting a non-existent page on the site, in which case the web server returns a 404 (page not found) error. This usually happens if the address of the page that the link points to has been renamed, moved to another location, or the page has been deleted. It is also possible that the user made a mistake in typing the address or used a “broken link” or an incorrect link was indicated on the page from which the transition was made. “Broken links” lead to the following problems on the site.

1) Have a negative impact on your site’s search engine rankings

“Broken links” can damage your site’s reputation on the Internet, as Google, Yandex and Binq search engines can lower your site’s ranking if the number of “links to non-existent pages” exceeds a certain threshold. The reason is that the search engine will “consider” that this site has been “abandoned” and stopped updating.

2) Problems getting new clients

Site visitors will not find pages describing a particular product or service they are looking for through search engines or links from third-party sites. This is especially important if a potential customer wants to make a purchase, has specific purchase requirements and has a specific budget allocated for these purposes.

3) Loss of some of the site visitors

Most visitors believe that the presence of non-existent pages on the site serves as an example of a demonstration of disrespect for them on the part of the site owners. This is especially important if the site is viewed from a mobile phone or tablet. As a result, the site visitor may consider this site not relevant or which has not been updated for a long time, and will not return to this site.
