MOTO payments (Mail Order Telephone Order) mean accepting orders without the physical presence of the buyer, for example, by phone, e-mail or fax.
Payment by bank card occurs in accordance with the requirements of PCI DSS, when the full number of the buyer’s bank card is unknown to the seller.
To accept bank card payments, an online merchant must sign an agreement with an acquiring service provider and receive an Internet Merchant Account.
How does this happen
Option 1. Virtual merchant terminal (basic option)
In this case, the merchant does not need to have their own e-commerce website with a built-in payment gateway.
The payment process might look something like this:
- the seller specifies the details of the order with the customer, by phone or by e-mail
- the seller prepares an order basket and an electronic invoice for payment, which also contains a QR code
- An electronic invoice for payment is sent to the client (payer) by e-mail, SMS or using a social network
- The client receives an invoice for payment, which contains:
- Order number
- QR code containing a direct payment link to the invoice for payment
- The payment itself is carried out directly on the virtual payment terminal (payment site) of the seller.
The client/payer has 2 options to access the invoice for payment:- authentication by login (order number) and password (mobile phone number, e-mail or customer/payer name)
- via a direct payment link, including using a QR code
- The customer views the shopping cart and the cost of the purchase.
All required fields in the shopping cart have already been pre-filled by the seller.
If the client agrees with the contents of the shopping cart and with the cost of the purchase, then he clicks on the “Pay” button - The client is redirected to the bank’s payment gateway, where he enters information on his bank card:
- Transaction security is ensured by 3D-Secure from: Visa Secure and Mastercard SecureCode.
- The processing of information on the payer’s bank card occurs in accordance with the requirements of PCI-DSS, when the full number of the payer’s bank card is unknown to the merchant.
