What are MOTO payments?

What are MOTO payments?

MOTO payments (Mail Order Telephone Order) mean accepting orders without the physical presence of the buyer, for example, by phone, e-mail or fax.
Payment by bank card occurs in accordance with the requirements of PCI DSS, when the full number of the buyer’s bank card is unknown to the seller.
To accept bank card payments, an online merchant must sign an agreement with an acquiring service provider and receive an Internet Merchant Account.

How does this happen

Option 1. Virtual merchant terminal (basic option)

In this case, the merchant does not need to have their own e-commerce website with a built-in payment gateway.

The payment process might look something like this:

  1. the seller specifies the details of the order with the customer, by phone or by e-mail
  2. the seller prepares an order basket and an electronic invoice for payment, which also contains a QR code
  3. An electronic invoice for payment is sent to the client (payer) by e-mail, SMS or using a social network
  4. The client receives an invoice for payment, which contains:
    • Order number
    • QR code containing a direct payment link to the invoice for payment
  5. The payment itself is carried out directly on the virtual payment terminal (payment site) of the seller.
The client/payer has 2 options to access the invoice for payment:

    • authentication by login (order number) and password (mobile phone number, e-mail or customer/payer name)
    • via a direct payment link, including using a QR code
  6. The customer views the shopping cart and the cost of the purchase.
All required fields in the shopping cart have already been pre-filled by the seller.
If the client agrees with the contents of the shopping cart and with the cost of the purchase, then he clicks on the “Pay” button
  7. The client is redirected to the bank’s payment gateway, where he enters information on his bank card:
    • Transaction security is ensured by 3D-Secure from: Visa Secure and Mastercard SecureCode.
    • The processing of information on the payer’s bank card occurs in accordance with the requirements of PCI-DSS, when the full number of the payer’s bank card is unknown to the merchant.

Also, we offer an additional service for estimation of the risk of online fraud.

  8. Depending on the payment results:
    • Option 1. if the payment is successful, then the client is redirected to the “payment confirmation page”,
also issue a receipt for payment of the order.
    • Option 2. if the payment is unsuccessful, then the client is redirected to the “failed payment” page, where the reason for the error is indicated.

Option 2. Cart of orders on the seller’s site.

The buyer makes his choice on the electronic website of the seller and fills in the basket of orders.
After the basket of orders is formed and the client clicks on the pay button,
then the control is transferred to the virtual terminal, and an electronic invoice for payment is issued and then the transition to the bank’s payment gateway and then according to the standard payment procedure described in paragraphs 7 and 8 above.

II) Benefits of MOTO payments

2.1) For the client:

  1. Payment security is guaranteed by compliance with the payment procedure in accordance with the rules of PCI DSS
  2. The client does not need to independently fill out the order form and deal with payment. Your manager will quickly do it for him.
  3. Having made an advance payment for a product or service, the client is sure that the preparation of his order has begun

2.2) For business:

  1. You do not need to create and maintain your own website
  2. The online seller receives full or partial prepayment for the service before it is provided and is confident in the client’s solvency.
  3. You don’t need a website or additional software to accept MOTO payments. Enough account on the payment platform served by Diginet Pro
